Few Good Men - July, 2004

Play in Two Acts
In April of 2004 I checked www.theatermirror.com
and discovered a listing from the New World
Theater Company in East Bridgewater, MA. The play was the stage
version of the famous movie, A Few Good Men starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore
and Jack Nicholson. The role they needed to fill was Col. Nathan Jessup, who
utters the memorable line "You can't handle the truth!", played
in the movie by Nicholson. So I phoned the NWTC to make an audition
appointment and the next evening I read for
the director, Jim Sullivan. Jim described NWTC as a young community theater
group, but while several of the cast and crew were in their 20's, everybody
was talented and hardworking, and the level of the production, both in design
and acting, was as
good as any company I have worked with.
And
so I was cast in the Jessup role, and spent almost two hours driving from
work to get to each rehearsal. But it was a lot of fun and the whole production
was great. I put everything I had into the role, and had a great time working
with an impressive cast. This show was the first I had done in a Massachusetts
community theater that ran for two weeks instead of just one and I really
liked the results. The entire cast raised the level of their performance the
second week and we all appreciated the extra play time.
